About the Role

As a Lead Hand, you’ll play a key role in our early morning operations by opening the building, organizing the workday, and providing leadership to the warehouse team. You’ll ensure freight is accurately received and the floor is set up so receivers can start work efficiently. Throughout the day, you’ll work side by side with coworkers while keeping work flowing smoothly and supporting productivity. This role also provides coverage for the supervisor during vacations and absences.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Open the building and lead the team in the early morning and throughout the day
  • Offload inbound freight, verify accuracy, and sign off on bills of lading
  • Set the floor for receivers and work side by side with coworkers to keep workflow efficient
  • Evaluate activities, determine labour needs, allocate associates, and monitor performance
  • Identify and resolve operational and system issues, including root causes
  • Communicate and support associates toward unit goals; build a strong team culture
  • Plan, guide, and assess associates and situations to drive best operational results
  • Manage labour allocation and overtime to control labour costs
  • Liaise with other branch departments, carriers, customers, and vendors
  • Participate in the occupational health & safety committee and special projects
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area; perform other leadership and warehouse duties as assigned

 

Key Qualifications 

 

  • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Post secondary, two year community college diploma in Distribution/Logistics Management is preferred
  • 3-5 years related experience in a large distribution centre is an asset
  • Proactive solution-oriented leader that can affect and influence behavior and results
  • Excellent computer skills, communication, problem solving and people management skills are required.
  • Forklift experience is considered an asset

 

Location:  Calgary, Alberta

Hourly rate: $24.88 per hour
